Hosea 2:18 Covenant > 17. Hosea 2:18: Faith For The Next Level: Part 4

By Martin Cisneros

The more that I pray for all of you, seeking the Lord as to what shall be the content of these letters, the stronger numerous convictions are arising about the centrality of the Hosea 2:18 Covenant to the ministry of the Gospel in our day, the perfections of Purim as times of refreshing from the Spirit of the Lord, the enormity of the grace of life for our day whether we are people or animals because God is that good, the width and breadth to which God's purposes have been misunderstood, and the impossibility to convey to people how much less likely than the Animals were the Gentiles to ever become fellow heirs with the House of Israel, the House of Judah, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ through the Gospel.  No portion of the Creation had any guarantees according to how things looked or according to one religious or societal norm.  Everything that has come about has been because of the precise Words of God and the investment of the care-free-living, blood, sweat, tears, thanksgiving, patience, fellowship, and straight and narrow walk of Christ Jesus and His people.  Every norm in our Churches that's clearly according to Scripture was at one point totally opposed by all of the Churches.  Let's briefly review what we've covered thus far before moving on into further truths of the Gospel:

27 “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, that I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man and the seed of beast. (Jeremiah 31:27 NKJV)

Let's stop and think through this verse above, Scripturally. For there to be a distinction in the way the Lord was going to do this from how God had done it before clearly speaks to a different state of things than merely natural births, Old Testament conversions, and the ownership of animals, as well as the sacrificial system of the Old Testament involving animals.  As you read further in Jeremiah 31, with the 31st through the 34th verses, of course, God clarifies that the change will be in terms of the New Covenant that Romans 11, 2Corinthians 1, Ephesians 3, and elsewhere includes grafted-in Gentiles.  So here in Jeremiah 31:27 we have the grafting in of the seed of the Gentiles when it says God would sow the seed of man into the House of Israel and God would sow the seed of man into the House of Judah.  Israel in the prophets and Gospels, particularly in Isaiah and Zechariah, is a socio-political system while Judah is the Covenantal heir of God's blessing promises of dominion and His redemptive promises.

Some would, no doubt, operate in the level of confusion as to assume that God's sowing the House of Israel and the House of Judah with the seed of man would speak only of God giving them more Hebrew children, while the seed of beasts in their estimation would be the Gentiles, but why would God promise to give them Jewish children, yet again, if that was something He settled with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob? What would be “new” about that, in the 31st through the 34th verses?  He never revoked His promise of more natural descendants and their very nature of being a House, in the sense of a family-line, presupposed their having natural descendants.  The Scriptures simply mean what they say at face-value, that God was bringing the Gentiles, as seed, to sow into them, and the Animals, as seed, to sow into them; the seed of both would be as much of the makeup of the House of Israel and the House of Judah, as it was a certainty that God would make both Houses one through Christ Jesus in the dispensation of the fullness of times, in Ephesians 1:8-10.  All of Creation would know the Edenic blessing through the Abrahamic Covenant, according to Isaiah 51:1-3.

28 And it shall come to pass, that as I have watched over them to pluck up, to break down, to throw down, to destroy, and to afflict, so I will watch over them to build and to plant, says the Lord. (Jeremiah 31:28 NKJV)

As God formerly stood over the house of Israel, the house of Judah, the seed of Gentiles, and the seed of Animals to prune them by plucking up, breaking down, throwing down, destroying, and afflicting during the Biblical ages of pruning, God said a time was coming when He would be building the House of Israel, the House of Judah, the seed of Gentiles, and the seed of Animals.  If Christians acknowledge this as a time of building up the House of Israel, the House of Judah, and the seed of Gentiles and planting all 3 in His Covenantal-blessings and provisions of righteousness, then why would God leave the rest undone?  Matters are only worsened with Christians who want to insist upon a sacrificial system in Israel's future because that's not only a denial of this Covenantal-mixing of the seed of Jews and Gentiles spoken of here in Jeremiah 31 and over in Romans 11 so that Israel no longer has the racial purity to return to an Old Testament sectarian system, but for those who want to deny these present mercies towards Animals in the Hosea 2:18 Covenant, when are these Animals ever going to enjoy the blessings of Abraham and the blessings of Christ with entering into the liberties of the children of God? (Romans 8:21)

Clearly God's timing for redemptive mercies through the Great Commission, (since Jeremiah 31 is Covenantal,) for the House of Israel sown with the seed of Gentiles and the seed of Animals, and the House of Judah sown with the seed of Gentiles and the seed of Animals is now!  Jeremiah 31:27 says they would be sown with the seed of Animals, not just with animals.  Seed in Scripture is always Covenantal whereas individuals in the Scriptures have their time, place, and dispensational boundary.  This is perpetual Animal redemption being spoken of, just as perpetual redemption is being spoken over the house of Israel, the house of Judah, and the sown Gentiles.  Here we have the sown Animals that were sown for the same merciful purpose: no more destruction!  We're told in Zechariah 8:

12 ‘For the seed shall be prosperous, the vine shall give its fruit, the ground shall give her increase, and the heavens shall give their dew... Zechariah 8:12

The seed of Gentiles and the seed of Animals being sown into the House of Israel and the House of Judah shall be prosperous!  Zechariah 8 says in the verses leading up to this verse that the general order of the days prior to this were the days of economic and relational evils for Man and Animals that Jeremiah 31:27-28 talks about.  Joel 1:20 says about those times that even the beasts of the field were crying out to God.  Zechariah 14 speaks of the Jeremiah 31:27-28 plagues that were on animals in the 15th verse of Zechariah 14 and says in the 20th verse that “Holiness to the Lord” shall be written on their bells.  While some might believe that this speaks of something akin to the Marks of the Lamb and of the Beast in the Book of Revelation that might have some degree of actual manifestation, whether on the collar of the animal or bells that are on the collars of various types of animals, I can't help but think of the High Priest of Israel that it's said would wear bells before going into the Holy of Holies on the Day of Atonement that would let the people know if things were favorable to them if they kept hearing that jingling on the part of the worshiper in the Holy of Holies.  Again, we're told in Zechariah 2:

4 who said to him, “Run, speak to this young man, saying: ‘Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls, because of the multitude of men and livestock in it. 5 For I,’ says the Lord, ‘will be a wall of fire all around her, and I will be the glory in her midst.’” Zechariah 2:4-5

For those that are currently outside of New Jerusalem at this time that the Hosea 2:18 Covenant is fully coming to the forefront, there will be something in the sound of these animals as they play, enjoying the Presence of God, of one another, and of us in Christ's Vegan Kingdom.  We're told in Isaiah 63 about this time of rapid transition for the animals based on the Hosea 2:18 Covenant:

11 Then he remembered the days of old, Moses and his people, saying: “Where is He who brought them up out of the sea with the shepherd of His flock? Where is He who put His Holy Spirit within them, 12 Who led them by the right hand of Moses, with His glorious arm, dividing the water before them to make for Himself an everlasting name, 13 Who led them through the deep, as a horse in the wilderness, that they might not stumble?” 14 As a beast goes down into the valley, and the Spirit of the Lord causes him to rest, so You lead Your people, to make Yourself a glorious name.  Isaiah 63:11-14

Obviously the answer to these questions is in Isaiah 40:

11 He will feed His flock like a shepherd; He will gather the lambs with His arm, and carry them in His bosom, and gently lead those who are with young. 12 Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, measured heaven with a span and calculated the dust of the earth in a measure? Weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance? 13 Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord, or as His counselor has taught Him? 14 With whom did He take counsel, and who instructed Him, and taught Him in the path of justice? Who taught Him knowledge, and showed Him the way of understanding? 15 Behold, the nations are as a drop in a bucket, and are counted as the small dust on the scales; look, He lifts up the isles as a very little thing. Isaiah 40:11-15

Clearly, He wants all of Creation enjoying His wholeness, and the New Testament Ark that Peter inferred to in 2Peter 3 would be the Jeremiah 31:27-28 House of Israel and House of Judah through the New Covenant:

5 For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, 6 by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. 7 But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. 2Peter 3:5-7

The fire for this world is a Vegan fire through the Hosea 2:18 Covenant.  Care to have a different image in your mind than a Night of the Living Dead zombie movie with everybody coming out of their graves just as the planet bursts into flames?  Here's your alternative imagery with the Hosea 2:18 Covenant as God is as much remembering His faithfulness to all of Creation with this fire as He did where Noah's Flood was concerned in the construction of the Ark.  The New Covenant Ark is the Hosea 2:18 Covenant:

4 who said to him, “Run, speak to this young man, saying: ‘Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls, because of the multitude of men and livestock in it. 5 For I,’ says the Lord, ‘will be a wall of fire all around her, and I will be the glory in her midst.’” Zechariah 2:4-5

This is the Old Testament version of Hebrews 12:22, though they were both speaking of the same thing with Zechariah 2 simply speaking in greater detail as an Old Testament Romans 8:18-30.  Again, read Isaiah 63:11-14 with Isaiah 40:11-15 about the animals being engulfed in the Spirit of God as the ungodliness of this world is falling away!  We're told in Zechariah 9:

9 “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, lowly and riding on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey. 10 I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim and the horse from Jerusalem; the battle bow shall be cut off. He shall speak peace to the nations; His dominion shall be ‘from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.’ Zechariah 9:9-10

The horses that were cut off from Jerusalem were clearly in the 15th verse of Zechariah 14:15 before the Hosea 2:18; Jeremiah 31:27-28 Covenant was fully established in the earth in our day.  Now, obviously, is the time for the horses to have written across their bells “Holiness to the Lord” in Zechariah 14:20 as a Covenantal representation of all of the animals covered by the Hosea 2:18 Covenant.  A better translation of Zechariah 9:10 would be that it goes on to say:

10 ...He shall speak prosperity to the Gentiles (you could clearly insert “and the Animals” because of Jeremiah 31:27-28 and other related passages); His dominion shall be ‘from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the land.’ Zechariah 9:9-10  Again, on why you could insert that, you'd compare Jeremiah 31:27-28 with Zechariah 2:4-5 and remembering Jeremiah 33:9 as foundational to Ezekiel 38:19-20 because of Hosea 3:5.  A good center-column-reference Bible or a Concordance will tell you the earthquake of Ezekiel 38:19-20 isn't necessarily to be translated as an earthquake, but is a shaking or trembling.

For some the sea to sea in Zechariah 9 would conjure up images of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, for others it would be a time-frame reference between the 2 mirrored baptismal seas of Solomon's Temple and of Herod's Temple, or even as a reference of multitudes of people to multitudes of people.  For others it would be a reference to the Red Sea and the Sea of Galilee because of the references to Egypt and to where Jesus was to walk on the water in the Books of Isaiah and Job which indicate areas of His dominion with references to Egypt and the Sea being subjected to Himself in the Books of Isaiah and Job.  But clearly the imagery, whatever else it means, implies absolute, universal dominion over the welfare of people and animals.  His dominion in the 10th verse of Zechariah 9 would be the level of His ability to extend His Shalom (Peace/Prosperity/Wholeness/Nothing Missing/Nothing Broken) that the passage mentions.  Referring to Jesus' Blood in the behalf of the Job 5:23, Isaiah 54, Isaiah 59:21, Ezekiel 34:25-31 (Cf. Isaiah 11:6-9), and Hosea 2:18 Covenants it says in Zechariah 9:

11 “As for you also, because of the blood of your covenant, I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit. 12 Return to the stronghold (or walled-by-fire city of Zechariah 2:4-5; Hebrews 12:22), you prisoners of hope. Even today I declare that I will restore double to you.  Zechariah 9:11-12

Closing with this insistence that Ezekiel 34:25-31 is talking about the wildness of the wild beasts being caused to depart, [rather than the beasts, themselves,] because this passage doesn't contradict Isaiah 11:2-9; Isaiah 63:14; Isaiah 65:24 and other related passages in Isaiah.  Ezekiel 34:30-31 is referring to all 4 components of Jeremiah 31:27-28: House of Israel, House of Judah, Seed of Gentiles, Seed of Animals.  However the punctuation needs to be reworked to say that, because the punctuation isn't part of the Hebrew text that this is translated from, is something I pray will be borne in mind with future translations of the Bible.:

30 Thus they shall know that I, the Lord their God, am with them, and they, the house of Israel, are My people,” says the Lord God.’ 31 “You are My flock, the flock of My pasture; you are men, and I am your God,” says the Lord God.

Clearly the reference to “men” in the 31st verse is the Gentiles, the flocks are clearly representative of the Animals of the Hosea 2:18 Covenant, and the House of Israel is understood to still be including a reference to the House of Judah as well. This is understood in the 24th verse.  We know that all 4 are being referred to 'cause this “Covenant of Peace” of Ezekiel 34:25 is the exact same one that's mentioned in Isaiah 54:9-10 and God is addressing it to the people who are descended from the situation with Noah's Flood and the terms of the Covenant God established after Noah's Flood was with people and animals.  This passage in Ezekiel 34 is clearly one of those that shows a bridge between the Isaiah 54 and Hosea 2:18 Covenants for our day.  Again, Ezekiel 34:25-31 for our day must clearly be understood with the clarification given to us in Jeremiah 31 in this passage:

27 “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, that I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man and the seed of beast. 28 And it shall come to pass, that as I have watched over them to pluck up, to break down, to throw down, to destroy, and to afflict, so I will watch over them to build and to plant, says the Lord. Jeremiah 31:27-28

For the idols speak delusion; the diviners envision lies, and tell false dreams; they comfort in vain. Therefore the people wend their way like sheep; they are in trouble because there is no shepherd. Zechariah 10:2

Unless otherwise noted, Scripture quotations are from a solid Center Column Reference Study New King James Version Bible. Where Center Column Reference alternate renderings are preferred, they're not always noted on the site at the time of their usage in a given context, if there's a discrepancy between our quotation and a NKJV that our site's visitors use that's missing the Center Column Reference notes that provide more literal renderings, alternative Hebrew and Greek manuscript variations, etc. Sometimes an "Understood Subject" from the given chapter of the Bible or the particular book of the Bible (perhaps previous chapter) is given attention to while teaching. Reading (and rereading) each book of the Bible [in it's entirety] that's being quoted from in the midst of each subject is [always] greatly encouraged for added clarity! While we're [deeply] supportive of what's understood to be orthodox Christian doctrine on all matters, we're always looking for what God's ADDITIONALLY saying to us in each subject being taught.
