4 “Thus says the LORD of hosts: ‘Old men and old women shall again sit In the streets of Jerusalem, Each one with his staff in his hand Because of great age. 5 The streets of the city Shall be full of boys and girls Playing in its streets.’ 6 “Thus says the LORD of hosts: ‘If it is marvelous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in these days, Will it also be marvelous in My eyes?’ Says the LORD of hosts. Zechariah 8:4-6

Hebrews 12:22 calls the Church "Jerusalem."  A staff in the Bible was a tool of a shepherd used in his daily activities of shepherding sheep and goats as he'd offer them guidance out of danger, protect them from predators, and it would guide his own walk over rough terrain, assist his walk when he was weary, and save his life from thieves. Zechariah 8 indicates, however, that it would be children in New Jerusalem that are being offered guidance out of danger, protection from thieves and predators, and guidance through rough and wearying terrain.

The Lord of hosts is well pleased by this, and if it's the Lord of hosts that's the Chief Shepherd in this passage over the old men and old women, children, and animals that Zechariah 8:12 says shall be prosperous, when comparing Zechariah 8:12 with Jeremiah 31:27-28, then we are assured by these verses that the Lord's hosts, or angels, are standing guard in a Psalm 91 way over not only the old men, old women, children, and animals, but over the staff in the hands of the elders.

If it is marvelous, or miraculous, in His eyes, then the prosperity, freedom from fear, strengthening of hands, salvation, and blessing spoken of in Zechariah 8 are genuinely intense as we speak the truth, treat each other fairly, refuse to think evil of one another, keep our word, and do everything else Zechariah 8 says to walk out this promise of His into manifestation.

Zechariah 8:20-22 says people will come running from everywhere to get in on what God is doing among us in these days.  The seed of His Word shall be prosperous in our lives and people will come to see it, pray before the Lord, and this is marvelous in His eyes!

For the idols speak delusion; the diviners envision lies, and tell false dreams; they comfort in vain. Therefore the people wend their way like sheep; they are in trouble because there is no shepherd. Zechariah 10:2

Unless otherwise noted, Scripture quotations are from a solid Center Column Reference Study New King James Version Bible. Where Center Column Reference alternate renderings are preferred, they're not always noted on the site at the time of their usage in a given context, if there's a discrepancy between our quotation and a NKJV that our site's visitors use that's missing the Center Column Reference notes that provide more literal renderings, alternative Hebrew and Greek manuscript variations, etc. Sometimes an "Understood Subject" from the given chapter of the Bible or the particular book of the Bible (perhaps previous chapter) is given attention to while teaching. Reading (and rereading) each book of the Bible [in it's entirety] that's being quoted from in the midst of each subject is [always] greatly encouraged for added clarity! While we're [deeply] supportive of what's understood to be orthodox Christian doctrine on all matters, we're always looking for what God's ADDITIONALLY saying to us in each subject being taught.
